Ingredients

Get ready to create a delightful banana milkshake! The magic happens with just a handful of ingredients. The full list with measurements is at the bottom of the page.

  • Vanilla Ice Cream – The base of your milkshake, vanilla ice cream adds creaminess and sweetness. Choose your favorite brand, the richer, the better.
  • Ripe Bananas – The star of the show. Ripe bananas are sweeter and mash easily, giving your shake an authentic banana flavor.
  • Milk – Any milk works here, whether it’s dairy or a plant-based option like almond or soy. It’s all about getting the consistency you like.
  • Honey or Simple Syrup – This adds a touch of extra sweetness. You can adjust the amount depending on how sweet your bananas and ice cream are.
  • Vanilla Extract – A little bit of vanilla extract enhances the overall flavor, making it richer and more complex.
  • Ground Cinnamon – A pinch of cinnamon can add a warm, spicy note, but it’s totally up to you.

How to Make a Banana Milkshake

Whipping up a banana milkshake is super easy and fun. Here’s how to make it happen:

1. Prep the bananas. Start by peeling and roughly chopping the bananas.

2. Blend them with ice cream and milk. Toss them in a blender with vanilla ice cream and milk. Blend until it’s all smooth, adding milk if needed.

3. Add honey and flavorings. Next, add honey, vanilla, and a pinch of cinnamon. Give it a quick pulse to mix everything well.

4. Pour and enjoy. Finally, pour your creamy milkshakes into glasses and enjoy right away!

Fresh or Frozen Bananas?

Both work great. Frozen bananas give you a thicker, creamier shake. But they can be tough on older blenders.

To make blending easier, let your ice cream sit out for a bit before you mix everything.

If your blender is still struggling, add another splash of milk to get things moving.

Fresh bananas are easier to blend and still make a great shake. They’re your go-to if you prefer a lighter texture or if your blender isn’t the strongest.

Bottom line: whether you use fresh or frozen, you’re in for a delicious banana shake!

Tips for Success

These tips will take your shake from good to great. Let’s shake things up!

The riper, the better. Pick bananas that are ripe and sweet, which means no green ones. The riper they are, the creamier and richer your shake will be.

Go au naturel. Use naturally sweet bananas to cut down on added sugars, keeping things healthier.

Get prepping. If you’re using dairy milk, heat it first, then cool it down. This prevents curdling for a smooth milkshake experience.

Go nuts! Throw in some soaked nuts for an extra layer of flavor and a nutritional boost.

Add a fruity twist. Don’t shy away from adding fruits like strawberries or avocado for a unique twist on the classic shake.

This banana milkshake is creamy, thick, and out of this world! The mixture of ice cream, ripe bananas, milk, honey, and cinnamon can’t be topped.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups vanilla ice cream (about 3 large scoops)

  • 2 large ripe bananas

  • 1/2 to 1 cup cold milk (dairy, almond, soy, etc.)

  • 2 tablespoons honey or simple syrup

  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1 pinch ground cinnamon, optional

Instructions

  • Peel and roughly chop the bananas.
  • Add the fruit to a blender with the ice cream and 1/2 cup of milk. Blend until smooth, adding more milk as needed.
  • When the shake is creamy, add the honey, vanilla, and cinnamon (if using). Pulse until smooth, then taste and adjust as needed.
  • Pour the banana milkshakes into 2 glasses. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

  • Use frozen banana slices for a thick milkshake with more banana flavor. Add 2 frozen bananas (cut into chunks), 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream, and enough milk to make it pourable.
  • A mix of frozen and overripe fresh bananas will make the shake super thick and extra flavorful.
  • For a healthier version, use vanilla frozen yogurt instead of ice cream. Or just use frozen bananas and leave out the ice cream.
