Bisquick Peach Cobbler

Bisquick peach cobbler is such a classic dessert, one bite will transport you back to childhood.

This recipe for Bisquick peach cobbler has been around since the ‘60s.

My mom used to make it all the time, so I’ve been enjoying it ever since I can remember!

Bisquick Peach Cobbler With Ice Cream

I just love the sweet and juicy peaches. And that crumbly crust? Absolute heaven.

If you’re missing your mom’s baking, then this recipe is for you. And thanks to the magic of Bisquick, you can prep this classic dessert in just 10 minutes.

Plus, it requires just six basic pantry ingredients, so you can easily make it anytime.

It’s the easiest and best way to end your meal with something sweet and refreshing. Especially with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!

Ingredients

You’ll need the following six ingredients for this yummy cobbler:

  • Original Bisquick mix. This right here is your time-saver. It’s what makes this “homemade” cobbler as easy as buying it from the store. Don’t substitute it unless you want to do a lot more work.
  • Milk. I typically use whole or 2% milk. I’ve never tried this recipe with dairy-free milk. If you do, come back and let me know how it went.
  • Ground nutmeg. Some people add cinnamon to their peach cobbler. I find that nutmeg provides the best flavor.
  • Butter. You can substitute margarine if you prefer.
  • Sugar. Granulated sugar will sweeten the cobbler and offset some of the peaches’ tanginess.
  • Sliced peaches. Grab a large, 29-ounce can from the store. Be sure to drain them before adding them.

Can You Use Frozen Peaches?

You definitely can! Fresh, canned, or frozen peaches will all work for this recipe. Just be sure to let the peaches thaw overnight before adding them.

You may also want to drain them to guard against excess moisture. (Too much liquid can make your crust soggy.)

How to Make Bisquick Peach Cobbler

Though not quite as easy as a dump cake, that’s ALMOST what you’ll do for this recipe.

1. Preheat. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.

2. Make the crust batter. Combine the Bisquick, milk, and nutmeg in an ungreased baking dish. Then, add the butter and mix well.

3. Prepare the peaches. Mix the peaches and sugar in a separate bowl. When fully mixed, spoon the peaches over the crust batter.

4. Bake. Bake in the preheated oven for 50 minutes to an hour. The crust should be golden when it’s ready.

Serve with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream, and enjoy!

Tips & Tricks for Making the Best Peach Cobbler

First, let’s start with a couple of notes about using fresh peaches.

Start by picking ones that have just the right firmness. You don’t want them to be too soft or tough. If they are, it’s better to just use canned peaches.

If you’re intent on using fresh peaches for this recipe, but they’re too tough, here’s a trick: pre-bake them for a few minutes to soften them.

Here are a few other good tips:

  • Do not overmix the batter! Otherwise, your cobbler won’t be as fluffy.
  • Thoroughly drain the peaches. You’ll get a soggy cobbler if you don’t.
  • Check the oven at the 25-minute mark. By that time, the cobbler should be forming a nice sauce. If not, you may have used dry peaches. But that’s okay, you can still fix it! Just add two tablespoons of melted butter over the peaches and it will help them release their sweet juice.
  • Don’t forget the ice cream! Sure, this peach cobbler is already delightful as is, but topping it with ice cream couldn’t hurt! Since peach cobbler is best eaten warm, a scoop of ice cream will give it that perfect cold contrast. You can’t go wrong with vanilla, but cinnamon, butter pecan, or pecan praline ice cream all complement the cobbler beautifully too!
  • No ice cream? No problem! Use whipped cream or whipped coconut cream instead. It will add that wonderful creamy contrast to the thick cobbler. Yum!
  • You can use a variety of fruits with this recipe. It works for blackberries, blueberries, strawberries, cherries, raspberries, apples, etc. The list goes on and on. Be creative and combine any of these fruits together to make an exceptional cobbler.
  • Brown your butter. When melting the butter, leave it in the microwave for a minute or two longer to brown it. This will give your peach cobbler a deeper, nutty flavor.
  • Use brown sugar instead of white. Doing so will give you a rich, caramel-like sauce that tastes so good.
  • Thicken the sauce. Add cornstarch to the peaches to thicken the sauce. Just be sure to bake until the sauce is bubbling to make sure you cook the cornstarch. This is also a great technique to avoid a soggy cobbler.
  • Add cinnamon. Feel free to use cinnamon instead of nutmeg, or a combination of both! You can even add some pumpkin spice for a fall-flavored cobbler! Yum.
  • Add a teaspoon of vanilla extract to the batter. Vanilla enhances the flavor of the ingredients, making the cobbler taste even better.

    • To thicken a sauce, the general rule is to use approximately 1 tablespoon for every cup of liquid in the recipe. 🙂

  1. Love this recipe that I’ve made many times now. Iot’s so versatile that I’ve changed it up for my vegetarian friends with almond milk and it’s just as delicious. I also add vanilla extract and half and half of cinnamon and nutmeg. It’s so easy and yet super delicious!

    • Hi Kathleen! You can’t do a 1 for 1 swap with gluten free Bisquick. There’s a few differences in the mix that makes it act a little differently.

But here’s a recipe to try:

1 cup gluten free Bisquick mix
      1/2 cup sugar
      1/2 cup milk
1 30 ounce can sliced peaches or 4 cups peeled and sliced peaches
      1 teaspoon nutmeg or cinnamon

Mix the baking mix, 1/4 cup of sugar, and the milk until smooth. Then spread it over the fruit (+ 1/4 cup sugar) as instructed in the original recipe.

      Hope this helps!
