Ingredients

  • Brioche Buns: Soft, buttery, and slightly sweet, they’re the perfect bun to hold everything together.
  • Hash Brown Patties: Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, they bring incredible texture.
  • Ground Beef & Breakfast Sausage: Juicy, flavorful beef is the key to a good burger. But since this is a breakfast burger, we’re mixing it with flavorful breakfast sausage.
  • American Cheese: Creamy, melty, and oh-so-satisfying. Feel free to use another type of cheese.
  • Butter: Rich and silky, it ensures the eggs cook up soft and luxurious.
  • Eggs: Fluffy, tender, and scrambled to perfection.
  • Thick-Cut Bacon: Smoky, salty, and delightfully crisp, they make this a fully loaded meal!
  • Garlic Powder, Salt & Pepper: To season the meat. You’ll also season the eggs with salt and pepper.

How to Make Breakfast Burger

This heavy-duty burger is the ultimate comfort food that’ll fuel your day from sunrise to sunset.

Whether you’re craving breakfast or dinner, this hearty handheld has got you covered. Who says you can’t have it all?!

There are a few steps, but it’s more than worth it!

1. PREP: Combine the ground beef, sausage, garlic powder, black pepper, and salt in a large bowl. Form into four patties and set aside.

2. COOK BACON: Place the bacon in a cold skillet and cook over medium heat until crisp, 5-7 minutes. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate.

3. COOK PATTIES: Press a shallow divot in each patty. Cook in the skillet over medium-high heat for 3-4 minutes per side. Add the cheese during the last minute. Cover with foil to rest.

4. COOK EGGS: Wipe the skillet, add butter, scramble the eggs, and season with salt and pepper.

5. COOK HASH BROWNS: Heat olive oil over medium heat in a separate, smaller skillet. Add the hash browns and cook for 4-5 minutes per side until crispy. Remove from the pan.

6. TOAST BUNS: Lightly toast the buns in the skillet, cut side down, if desired.

7. ASSEMBLE: Spread ketchup on buns. Layer with a hash brown, scrambled eggs, burger patty, and bacon. Top with the bun and press gently.

Serve the breakfast burgers hot and enjoy!

Tips For the Best Breakfast Burger

I love how this burger brings together all my favorite breakfast elements in one glorious handful.

It’s the perfect cure for those mornings when you need a little extra oomph to kickstart your day.

As mentioned, there are a few steps. But with these tips, it’s a breeze!

  • Have everything ready to go. To ensure everything is cooked and warm, have everything ready before you start. That way, you can cook in two skillets at once.
  • Choose the right meat. Feel free to use only ground beef – 80/20 or 85/15 for the ideal balance of flavor and juiciness. But I love the added flavor you get from the breakfast sausage!
  • Shape the patty. Don’t handle the meat too much, and ensure the patties are larger than the buns. That way, they’ll still fill the bun after they shrink a little.
  • Egg doneness. Cook the eggs until just set but not browned for the best texture to complement the other ingredients.
  • Use an XL skillet. If you have one, use a large skillet and cook the burgers and hashbrowns at the same time.
  • Use the oven. If you don’t have room for two skillets, you can bake the bacon and hashbrowns instead.
  • Variations. Try different cheeses, like cheddar or pepper jack. Swap brioche buns for English muffins or bagels. Use sausage patties instead of the beef. Fry the eggs instead of scrambling.
  • Serve with. Pair these breakfast burgers with fresh fruit or sweet potato fries for a complete and satisfying meal.

How to Store

It probably won’t come as a surprise to hear that these burgers are best enjoyed right away.

But if you have leftovers that you haven’t assembled yet, you can store them for later.

To Store: Place cooled leftovers in separate, airtight containers for up to 24 hours.

To Reheat: Reheat the elements separately in the microwave, then assemble them on fresh buns.

This breakfast burger is the ultimate morning indulgence, combining all your favorite flavors – bacon, eggs, and cheese – in one satisfying bite.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 pound ground beef (85/15 or 80/20)

  • 1/2 pound breakfast sausage

  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 8 slices thick-cut bacon

  • 4 slices American or cheddar cheese

  • 1 tablespoon butter

  • 4 large eggs

  • salt and pepper to taste

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

  • 4 frozen hash brown patties

  • 4 brioche buns

  • 1/2 cup ketchup

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, sausage, garlic powder, black pepper, and salt until well combined. Divide the mixture into four patties slightly larger than the buns and set aside to rest.
  • Place the bacon into a large, cold skillet. Turn the heat to medium and cook until crisp, about 5-7 minutes. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate and increase the heat to medium-high.
  • Use your thumb to press a shallow divot in the center of each burger patty to prevent puffing up during cooking. Add to the skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes per side. During the last minute of cooking, top each patty with a slice of cheese. Remove from the skillet and cover loosely with foil to rest.
  • Wipe the skillet clean with paper towels and add the butter. Cook and scramble the eggs to your desired level of doneness. Season with salt and pepper, to taste.
  • While the burgers cook, warm 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a separate, smaller skillet over medium heat. Add the hash brown patties and cook for 4-5 minutes per side, until golden and crispy. Remove from the pan.
  • If desired, lightly toast the burger buns, cut side down, in the hot skillet.
  • To assemble the burgers, spread the buns with ketchup. Top the bottom buns with a hash brown patty, 1/4 of the scrambled eggs, a cheese-topped burger patty, and 2 slices of bacon each. Place the top buns over the bacon and press gently to secure.
  • Serve the breakfast burgers immediately while hot. Enjoy!

Notes

  • To ensure everything is cooked and warm, have everything ready before you start. That way, you can cook in two skillets at once.
  • If you have one, use a large skillet and cook the burgers and hashbrowns at the same time.
