Every time I step into a Cracker Barrel, it takes me right back to my childhood.

I’m a long time fan of their delicious mac and cheese and crispy fried okra. But nothing beats their fried apples.

It’s a heavenly treat that tastes like it came straight from Grandma’s kitchen.

Golden Delicious apples – The top choice for baking, these apples have a mild flavor and don’t break down as much when cooked.

Cornstarch – This is used as a thickener for the sauce.

Apple pie spice – If you don’t have apple pie spice, you can make a mix of your own using cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice.

Sugar – This will help caramelization and add a touch of sweetness to the tart apple juice.

      Yes, you can make these a day ahead. Just be sure to cool them fully then store them in an airtight container in the fridge.
      To reheat, place them in a microwave safe dish and microwave in 30-second increments until hot and bubbly.
      You could also warm them in a skillet over medium-low heat with a splash of extra juice or water. They’ll be ready in just a few minutes 🙂

    Do you peel the applies? First portion of the recipe you indicate to peel the apples. The recipe does not mention anything about peeling the apples. The pictures looks like the apples are not peeled. Thanks beautyeval

      It’s actually totally up to you if you want to peel the apples or not. My long-distance best friend and I have been arguing about this very thing for years. Here in Alabama, Cracker Barrel’s apples are DEFINITELY peeled. But she SWEARS that in Missouri, they aren’t. Having never been to a Cracker Barrel outside of Tennessee and Alabama, I just don’t know whether they really are peeled everywhere or not. Haha.

      My rule of thumb is this: If you want a smoother mouthfeel, peel the apples. If you don’t mind a little extra texture, leave the peels on. 🙂
