Who doesn’t love some good old-fashioned Bisquick waffles?

Especially when you top them with warm buttermilk syrup, some fruit, or if I’m extra hungry, fried chicken!

To make the absolute best waffles EVER, we’re going to be using Bisquick Waffle mix.

The recipe on the box has been my go-to for years. But I recently discovered a few tweaks that made this breakfast staple taste even better.

Get ready for the best, tastiest, fluffy-but-crunchy Bisquick waffles you’ve ever had!

Bisquick™ Waffles Ingredients

The great thing about making waffles with Bisquick is that you don’t need a lot. Just four ingredients, really:

  • Bisquick waffle mix. Bisquick takes care of almost everything you need for these waffles. That’s what makes them so simple.
  • Milk. Here’s one of the secret tricks to this recipe. The Bisquick box will tell you to use 1-1/3 cups of milk. Use 2 full cups instead. Trust me; it makes all the difference.
  • Vegetable oil. Try not to substitute for another type of oil unless you have no other choice. Vegetable oil is the best option.
  • Egg. The egg holds everything together and makes the waffles light and fluffy.

How to Make Bisquick Waffles

The steps for making Bisquick waffles couldn’t be simpler.

1. Prepare the waffle iron. Preheat it so it’s already hot when you pour in the batter. Grease it with non-stick cooking spray, as well.

2. Make the batter. Combine all ingredients in a large bowl. Whisk until the batter is smooth.

3. Cook. Pour the batter into the waffle iron. Cook until the waffles are golden brown. Then, serve with your desired toppings and enjoy!

Tips & Tricks for Making the Best Bisquick Waffles

For the best waffles that the whole family will enjoy, follow these tips and tricks:

  • Cook on medium heat. Nobody likes burnt waffles. Setting the heat to medium will prevent them from sticking to your waffle iron and burning. It’ll also ensure your waffle is evenly cooked and isn’t raw in the middle or burnt on the outside.
  • Don’t add too much batter. Note how much batter your waffle iron requires. Most waffle irons need one cup, but others need more. Knowing how much yours needs is essential because you don’t want them to be too thin and not have the classic waffle shape. You also don’t want to make a mess with overflowing batter!
  • Substitute buttermilk for milk. It makes the waffles so much richer.
  • Try other add-ins for more flavor. Add a teaspoon of cinnamon for a ricly spiced flavor. Other fun ingredients to add to your batter are nutmeg, vanilla, or brown sugar. You can even add in small pieces of fruit to incorporate their sweet flavors.
  • Transform your waffles into Belgian waffles. Just add a pinch more baking soda to make it extra light and fluffy. You won’t get a TRUE Belgian waffle experience without the larger, deeper Belgian waffle iron. Still, extra baking soda will give you a close approximation.
  • Make vegan-friendly waffles. Substitute almond or coconut milk for the dairy milk. Add in dairy-free yogurt instead of eggs.

Toppings Ideas

This recipe makes the most delicious waffles. They’ll be so tasty even with just a little butter.

But if you’re feeling like adding a few extra things to dress up your simple Bisquick waffle, there are plenty of options. Try any of these:

  • Fruits and just a little bit of whipped cream. This combo is always great on top of a stack of waffles. My favorites are blueberries and bananas!
  • Vanilla ice cream and chocolate syrup. These toppings are for when you really want to be indulgent and over-the-top decadent.
  • A quick coating of cinnamon sugar. It’s a quick, easy, and low-calorie way to add a ton of flavor.
  • Savory toppings. Try the traditional fried chicken or bacon and cheesy scrambled eggs.

Can You Freeze Waffles?

Did you make one too many waffles? Don’t worry, because these delectable breakfast treats can be stored in the freezer! 

If you follow these steps to keep them fresh and free from moisture, you can freeze your waffles for up to a month.

  1. Let your waffles cool to room temperature.
  2. Wrap the waffles individually in aluminum foil or plastic.
  3. Place them in a sealed container.
  4. Leave them in the freezer for up to 1 month!

Reheating Frozen Waffles

When it’s finally time to have those deliciously fluffy waffles, all you need to do is unwrap them and reheat in the oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 10 minutes.

You can also reheat them in a toaster! Both options allow you to heat them straight from frozen.

What’s the Difference Between Pancake Mix and Waffle Mix?

Now for the age-old question: Are you on team pancakes or team waffles?

I can never pick a favorite because they’re so similar and equally delicious! But what’s the difference between waffle and pancake mix?

There are three key differences between the two:

  • Waffle mix has more sugar. The additional sugar allows it to caramelize and create that little bit of crunch on the edges.
  • Waffle mix has more baking powder. That’s why waffles rise more and are fluffier than pancakes.
  • Waffle batter contains more fat. The fat gives the waffles their perfectly crispy exterior.

So, even though they’re made up of mostly the same ingredients, a waffle will have more crunch and a little more sweetness than a pancake.

And, of course, the big difference comes in how they’re prepared.

Pancakes are cooked on a smooth, flat surface. Waffles are cooked in a waffle iron. This is one of the main reasons for the dramatic difference in texture.
