This incredible Dream Whip pie comes right off the package, so you know it’s a guaranteed winner!
Just like Hershey’s chocolate cake or Nestle Tollhouse cookies, when you get a recipe straight from the box, chances are, it’s been tirelessly worked by a whole team of experts until it’s perfect.
So, why look for anything else?
Never tried Dream Whip before? No worries! It’s super simple to work with, and it can be stored right in your pantry until you need it.
Dream Whip Pie
I can still remember the first time I tried Dream Whip pie.
My grandmother came out of the kitchen in a flourish with a big, cold, sinfully sweet pie in her hand and a massive smile on her face.
After one bite, I was hooked.
I love using Dream Whip and instant pudding because you almost always have them in the cupboard.
I know I’m not the only one who keeps them stocked up, right?
So, all you’ll need is a pie crust, and you’re good to go.
It really is as easy as whipping up the topping with some milk and vanilla before blending in the pudding flavor of your choice.
What Is Dream Whip Pie?
Ok, so what is Dream Whip Pie?
Simply put, it’s a little slice of heaven!
But if you need more details: it’s a dreamy, no-bake pie made using powdered whipped topping, instant pudding, and a pre-made pie crust (usually graham crackers).
It takes about 10 minutes to throw together, and then you’ll just need to let it set.
It’s perfect for a busy holiday weekend when you don’t have time to devote hours to the kitchen.
I’m a huge fan of the chocolate version, and I like to use an Oreo pie crust to make it even more intense.
That being said, the beauty of this recipe is its versatility!
Need something fruity? Go with strawberry pudding.
Looking for something a little different? Why not try pistachio pudding?
The possibilities are endless, and you can even dress it up with added whipped cream or fun extras folded through the mix.
Ingredients
You’ll be happy to hear that this recipe only needs a handful of ingredients, and like I said before, I’ll bet you have most (if not all) of them on hand.
I know I always grab a few packs of pudding when they’re on sale, and having ready-made pie crusts is a lifesaver when it comes to last-minute desserts.
To make this super simple Dream Whip pie, you’ll need:
- Dream Whip – This one’s a no-brainer since it’s literally in the title! I can usually find it in the grocery store conveniently next to the pudding down the baking aisle, but you can also find it online.
- Cold Milk – Since Dream Whip isn’t vegan, you should use regular milk for this, so it’s as creamy as possible. I prefer full-fat because it is dessert, after all. But if you want to use sbeautyeval, it should still work.
- Vanilla – Always go for extract over essence, but if you want the best flavor, try buying vanilla paste – a little goes a long way.
- Instant Pudding Mix – As I said, I’m a big fan of the chocolate version, but the sky’s the limit here. Have you tried pumpkin spice? How about butter pecan, cheesecake, or strawberry shake? I recommended trying them all!
- Graham Cracker Pie Crust – I’ll be forever grateful for these. They save you so much time! Plus, the mild flavor pairs well with pretty much any flavored filling.
Tips for the Best Pie
Though this is pretty simple, there are a few things you can do to ensure this pie’s success:
- Always start with cold milk, so it whips up enough to become thick.
- If using two different pudding flavors (such as chocolate and vanilla), carefully measure the ingredients into separate bowls before you start.
- Change up the base flavor depending on your pudding choice. Graham cracker does work well with most things, but a peanut butter filling would be extra special with a chocolate crust!
- Make your own pie crust with cookies for something extra special.
- When whipping the filling, be prepared to wait a little bit. You’ll want it nice and thick before you add it to the crust.
- Be sure to let this set completely to get the cleanest slices around.
- Jazz your Dream Whip pie up with everything from fresh fruit to chocolate shavings to a sweet caramel drizzle.
- If adding fruit to the pie, be sure it’s clean and dry, and always thaw and drain frozen fruit, so it doesn’t seep juices into the pie.
Variations and Additions
I know I keep saying it, but it bears repeating: this pie is crazy versatile!
Not only can you use pretty much any pudding flavor you want, but you can also bulk it out with some fun additions!
Here are some of my favorite variations and additions for Dream Whip pie:
- Homemade shortbread pie crust with half butterscotch and half chocolate filling.
- Luscious lemon pudding with a quick meringue topping.
- Classic strawberry with chunks of fruit folded through and extra whipped cream on top.
- Tart raspberry pudding swirled with chocolate and an Oreo base.
- Chocolate pudding with Marshmallow Fluff and a layer of crunchy peanut butter under the filling.
- Pistachio pudding with fresh raspberries and chopped nuts on top.
Looking for a vegan Dream Whip pie? I have you covered:
- A lot of graham cracker crusts are already vegan-friendly, or you can make your own when a vegan-approved brand and either vegan butter or coconut oil.
- Swap out the Dream Whip for Easy Whip, which works almost the same way and can be mixed with everything from almond milk to fruit juices
- Look for vegan-friendly pudding mixes, like these from Simply Delish, which come in chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry.
We love, love, the No bake recipes.. pls keep them coming. Thanks so much.❤️❤️
This pie is a holiday fave in my house. So many different variations can be created…….I always get pushed to make this one for family gatherings.
Use a frozen pie shell or a Ready Crust…..melt about a cup of semi-sweet chips and using a pastry brush coat the cooked shell with the choclate. I have actually used Andes candies the mint ones and a couple of drops of creme dementhe in the pudding.
Let your imagine run wild…….Great recipe to pass along to new homemakers.
Is there a substitution for dream whip?
Hi Judith! This recipe is specifically for Dream Whip. But if you want something similar, try this:
1 (8 ounce) tub Cool Whip
2 packs of Instant Pudding or Jello
1 (9-inch) pie crust
1. Make the pudding or jello per the instructions on the box. Cool to room temp.
2. Whisk 1/4 of the Cool Whip into the pudding/jello. Then gently stir in the rest.
3. Pour the filling into the pie crust and chill for 4 hours.
Another great recipe is this peanut butter pie. Just swap the whipped cream for 1 (8-ounce) tub of Cool Whip:

Hope this helps!
Could you add espresso powder
hi Pat, sure you can!
Add it to step two and mix it in with the filling ingredients.
Taste and adjust as needed 🙂
