Mango Smoothie
If your sweet tooth is calling, check out this smoothie.
Mangoes are golden, tropical gems. They’re delicately sweet with hints of apricots, citrus, pineapple, and floral notes.
If there were a tropical fruit contest, mangoes would be the MVP.
And when you blend them into a creamy smoothie, magic happens.
There’s no added sugar or strange ingredients to track down. All you need are mangoes, bananas, yogurt, and milk.
Should You Use Fresh or Frozen Mango?
You can use fresh or frozen mangoes in this recipe, and it will work just fine. However, there are some advantages and disadvantages to consider first.
- Fresh mangoes. In the flavor department, fresh is always best. Using fresh mangoes delivers the strongest tropical flavors and won’t water down your smoothie. The downside? They’re a little harder to track down when they aren’t in season.
- Frozen mangoes. Frozen mangoes aren’t as flavorful as fresh, so your smoothie won’t be as potent. However, frozen mangoes will make a much thicker, sorbet-like smoothie. Plus, they’re more affordable and easier to buy in bulk.
Ingredients
I wasn’t kidding when I said the ingredient list is short. You only need four simple ingredients and your blender to create tropical bliss.
- Mangoes – Fresh or frozen works fine in this recipe, but fresh fruit delivers the best overall flavor. Shop for fresh mangoes when they are in season between May and September.
- Bananas – All smoothies need a fruity sidekick! Don’t worry, the banana flavor won’t overpower the mangoes. Bananas help make this smoothie thick and creamy.
- Greek yogurt (plain or vanilla) – Any yogurt will work, but Greek is best. Greek yogurt is thicker and has a unique tang, making this smoothie nice and bright.
- Milk – The type of milk doesn’t matter. It’s just a way to add creaminess. Use your favorite dairy or non-dairy milk. Coconut milk is an excellent option for a more tropical flavor.

Tips for the Best Smoothie
Check out a few of these quick tips to ensure your smoothies are ready to sip poolside. Smoothie-making isn’t an exact science, so it’s easy to fix minor mistakes.
- Make a thicker smoothie. If you like to eat your smoothies with a spoon instead of a straw, use frozen fruit. Frozen bananas and mangoes will deliver a sorbet-like consistency. Or, you can simply add ice.
- Sweeten things up. If you want an ultra-sweet smoothie, put down that bag of sugar! To amp up the sweetness, add more mangoes. Or, reach for a super brown banana.
- Don’t over-blend! I know you want your smoothie to be incredibly smooth. But running the blender for too long changes the consistency. Even worse, it can make your smoothie warm. No one wants a warm smoothie.
Variations
This mango smoothie recipe tastes magical on its own. But nothing stops you from getting creative and adding even more flavor (or nutrition).
- Make it vegan. A few simple swaps can vegan-ify this recipe. Instead of dairy milk and yogurt, reach for plant-based substitutes. Unlike baking, it won’t affect the thickness and flavor when added to a smoothie.
- Dial up the protein. Want smoothies for breakfast or a post-workout snack? Add a scoop of protein powder to your blender. Vanilla works best, but I love Jet-Puffed Marshmallow protein powder by RYSE.
- Add more fruit! For a tropical flavor explosion, you don’t have to stop with mangoes. Add all your favorite tropical fruit like pineapple, papaya, and coconut.
- Pile in added flavor. You can add anything you have on hand for a boost in flavor. Get creative with things you have on hand. Try tasty add-ins like honey, cashews, flax seeds, or cocoa powder.
How to Store
Smoothies are always best served immediately, but you can store any leftovers in the fridge! Here’s a quick way to store anything you couldn’t drink in a single sitting.
- To Store in the Refrigerator: Place leftovers in an air-tight container with a tight-fitting lid. They’ll stay fresh for 1-2 days. Be sure to shake or stir the smoothie well before serving.
- To Store in the Freezer: Yes, you can also freeze this recipe! Place leftovers in a freezer-safe container or bag. They’ll stay fresh for up to 3 months.
