Oreo cookie balls are the perfect treat for all those Oreo lovers out there. That’s everyone, right?
They’re soft and creamy in the center with a vanilla candy-coated shell. Oh, and even more Oreos sprinkled on top!
The best part is you can customize this no-bake treat for any occasion. Cover with rainbow sprinkles for a birthday party, or red and green for the holidays.
It is scientifically proven that no one will be disappointed when eating an Oreo ball.
Oreo Cookie Balls
Oreo cookie balls have all the goodness of a cakeball, sans the baking.
The fine folks at the Oreo factory did all the baking for you. All you need to do is crush them and add cream cheese.
The resulting treat resembles an elegant truffle or fancy chocolate. The white candy coating is a gorgeous final touch to an already rich and tasty dessert.
One of the best things about Oreo cookie balls is that they’re no-bake and ready to eat the minute you finish shaping them.
If you are feeling patient, you can wait until the white candy coating has cooled and solidified. This kind of torture is recommended, but not mandatory.
Ingredients
I already spoiled this a little bit, but this fantastic recipe only has three ingredients.
- Oreo Cookies. Oreo cookies are the backbone of this no-bake dessert. Any brand of Oreo creme cookie will do. If you like eating them, they will work in this recipe.
- Cream Cheese. Cream cheese is the binding agent for this recipe. It’s incorporated into the Oreo cookie crumbs, creating a texture you can mix and mold.
- Vanilla Candy Coating. Vanilla candy coating creates the final casing for the Oreo cookie balls. Use any spare coating as decor and drizzle it on top of the cookie balls for decoration.
How to Make
You won’t believe how quickly these Oreo balls come together! Here’s a quick rundown on how to make them in a jiffy.
1. Crush the cookies. Place Oreos in a large freezer bag, and remove excess air. Using a rolling pin, crush the cookies to a fine powder.
2. Make the filling. Place crushed cookies in a large bowl, and add cream cheese. Gently stir until a soft dough forms.
3. Roll the balls. Using your hands, roll the balls into uniform 1-inch balls, and place them on a baking sheet. Then, pop in the freezer for up to 20-30 minutes.
4. Dip in candy. Once frozen, roll the Oreo balls in melted candy coating. Place on wax paper to harden, and pop them in the fridge. Serve, and enjoy!
Tips and Tricks
Oreo cookie balls are simple, and the following tips will help ensure your first batch is successful.
- Use regular Oreos. It can be tempting to buy double or even triple-stuffed Oreos. I get it, I prefer to eat those, too! But for this recipe, you need regular Oreos to ensure there isn’t too much creme in the mix.
- Chill the filling. After the filling comes together, pop it in the fridge for at least 30 minutes. The filling is sticky, so chilling it makes it easier to roll into balls.
- The perfect candy coating. Dipping Oreo balls in candy can get a little messy. Make it easier by skewering a ball with a toothpick, and rolling it in the melted candy. Or, use two spoons to roll it in the candy for hands-free coating.
- Get creative with toppings. While the recipe suggests crusted Oreos for the topping, you don’t have to stop there! The white candy coating is a great blank canvas for rainbow sprinkles, holiday-themed sprinkles, or candy.
Add-Ins for Oreo Cookie Balls
Like any good recipe, Oreo cookie balls are customizable with limitless options for add-ins. Here are some of my favorites.
- Creamy liquor. One option is to spike your Oreo balls with a cream-based liquor, such as Baileys or Kahlua. Then, top the truffle with ground espresso bean or chocolate sprinkles.
- Nutella or peanut butter. You could also add a nut paste directly into the mixture. Try peanut butter or Nutella, stirred right into the dough for a rich, more complex Oreo ball flavor.
- Candy. Candy pieces are always crowd-pleaser. Chop up some of your favorite candy pieces and add them to both the inside and outside of your Oreo ball. This could be Butterfinger pieces or small candies such as Reese’s pieces or M&Ms.
- Peppermint. For a seasonal flair, chopped-up peppermint pieces are a great option. Peppermint and chocolate pair so well together and are a match made in heaven.
With all of these options, you can make Oreo balls that are custom-designed for any occasion.
How to Store the Cookie Balls
Oreo cookie balls have a fairly long shelf life, as long as they are stored properly. Here are some tips so they stay as fresh as possible in the fridge or freezer.
- To Store. Place Oreo balls in a single layer in an airtight container. If stacking, make sure to put a layer of parchment paper between each stack to prevent sticking. They will stay fresh in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
- To Freeze. Arrange balls on a single layer on a baking sheet, and flash-freeze for 2 hours. Then, transfer them to a freezer-safe bag where they will stay fresh for up to 3 months.
