Oreos are perhaps the most beloved cookie sandwiches there are. After all, who can say no to chocolate wafer cookies with a sweet and creamy filling?
But did you know that beyond the vanilla creme filling, Nabisco has released a myriad of fun and sometimes kooky flavors through time?
And not just in the United States!
The company has launched (and also said goodbye) to over hundreds of varieties all over the world.
I’m featuring 50 of the strangest, most exciting ones out there. The sky’s the limit when it comes to Oreo cookie flavors!
1. Mystery Oreos
The first time Nabisco launched Mystery Oreos was back in 2017, where they hosted a contest to guess what the filling was.
In December of that year, it was revealed to be Fruity Pebbles.
In 2019, Nabisco released another limited edition mystery flavor.
Another contest was held, with a whopping $50,000 grand prize to whoever guessed the flavor. Spoiler alert: it was churro!
2. Love Oreos
Love Oreos were released in 2019 to honor Valentine’s Day. While they had a lovely pink hue, the tangy, raspberry, Pez-ish flavor wasn’t well received.
3. Chocolate Oreos
With two chocolate cookies and a chocolate creme filling, these are definitely for the chocoholics out there.
4. Dark Chocolate Oreos
These Oreos have deeper chocolate flavor. The dark chocolate variety was released on December 21st, 2018 – the shortest and darkest day of that year. So appropriate!
5. Golden Oreos
This classic flavor is the vanilla alternative to the original chocolate cookies. Apart from the golden cookies, the creme filling remains the same.
6. Carrot Cake Oreos
Carrot Cake Oreos were released as a permanent addition to the family.
They consist of carrot cake-flavored cookies with a cream cheese-flavored filling. What a fantastic treat!
7. Red Velvet Oreos
Just like Carrot Cake Oreos, Red Velvet Oreos have the same cream cheese-flavored filling, but it’s sandwiched between two red velvet cookies.
If you haven’t tried them yet, please do. They’re definitely one of my favorites on this list!
8. Birthday Cake Oreos
Ah, the famous Birthday Cake Oreos. This variety was released in 2012 – Oreos 100th year – as a limited-edition flavor.
But because of their insane popularity, they were added to the permanent list.
Birthday Cake Oreos are made of birthday cake flavored filling, speckled with sprinkles.
9. Mint Oreos
This one’s a huge hit for mint lovers. The Mint Oreos have a mint and chocolate creme filling with chocolate chips.
They taste a lot like thin mints, so if you’re a fan of those, you’ll definitely love these.
Mint Oreos come in two variants: the regular size, and Oreo Thins. If you ask me, they’re both fantastic.
You’d think the mint would be too overpowering, but the chocolate cookies counterbalance the flavor perfectly.
12. Chocolate Marshmallow Oreos
Since the S’mores Oreos were such a hit, Nabisco released another similarly themed flavor in January 2020.
Chocolate Marshmallow Oreos have a chocolate marshmallow filling and cookies dotted with marshmallow bits as well. What a genius idea!
13. Fudge Covered Oreos
As if the original Oreo wasn’t sinful enough, Nabisco decided to dunk it in a pool of chocolate. Ugh.
These Fudge Covered Oreos are so insanely addictive, I can’t have just one!
14. Salted Caramel Oreo Thins
In 2015, Nabisco released a line of Oreo Thins, which is basically what its name suggests.
One flavor was salted caramel, which is my favorite dessert flavor of all time!
While the cookie did not disappoint with the caramel flavor, I think the “salt” part was definitely lacking.
That’s probably why they discontinued the flavor.
15. Peanut Butter Oreos
Remember that scene from the 1998 film, The Parent Trap, where the twins dunked their Oreos in peanut butter?
I’ll bet many kids tried that after watching the movie!
But if you think it was the cute little girls who invented the flavor, think again.
Peanut Butter Oreos have been around since 1974, and they’re still a hit!
It’s no surprise – there’s something special about combining peanut butter and chocolate.
16. Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie Oreos
And speaking of chocolate and peanut butter, here’s another one for you!
Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie Oreos were introduced in June 2018, and it looks like they’re here to stay.
This one features graham-flavored cookies and a double filling of peanut butter and chocolate. It’s the perfect combination!
17. Cherry Cola Oreos
These pretty cookies are all thanks to Eden F., the winner of the #myoreocreation contest held in 2018.
According to her, the flavor was inspired by her childhood in the ‘80s, where she was fond of sodas, popsicles, and fresh fruit.
Her prize? Only $500,000, thank you very much.
Cherry Cola Oreos have a half-white, half-red cherry cola-flavored creme filling. They’re also loaded with popping candy to achieve that fizzy soda vibe.
18. Peanut Butter and Jelly Oreos
Who doesn’t love the classic PB&J combo? The flavor was released for a limited time only in 2017.
19. Kettle Corn Oreos
Popcorn and Oreos? Yes, please! It’s like combining two of my favorite movie snacks into one delightful treat.
Kettle Corn Oreos were another entry in the #myoreocreation contest.
While they didn’t get as many votes as Cherry Cola, they’re still awesome.
Apart from the Kettle Corn flavor, the filling also has puffed millet bits, to boot. Sandwiched between two golden cookies, they make such a sweet and tasty snack.
20. Lemon Oreos
Here’s another flavor that’s here to stay — lemon. It’s quite a polarizing one, though. While some enjoy the hint of citrus in the cookies, others can’t stand it.
They’re even comparing the taste to Lemon Pledge. Yikes!
If you ask me, though, I like them! The combination of the golden cookies and the lemon filling reminds me of lemon meringue.
Unlike other flavors, it’s not overwhelmingly sugary, and has just the right balance of sweet and tart.
21. Oreo Thins Pistachio Creme
If you’re a huge pistachio fan, you’ll love this flavor.
Chocolate and pistachios are already fabulous on their own, but when you combine them, it produces something glorious.
And that’s exactly what Nabisco did in 2018. Pistachio Creme is one flavor of the Oreo Thins line, and it’s actually yummy!
True, they don’t taste like actual pistachios at all, but hey, they’re still good.
22. Cinnamon Bun Oreos
Oreos and cinnamon buns are both tasty snacks, so why not roll them into one bombshell treat?
This is exactly what Nabisco did in 2016, when they launched Cinnamon Bun Oreos.
The flavor had cinnamon cookies and a sweet icing filling. It was such a fantastic combination, and dare I say it, the best innovative flavor they’ve come up with so far.
Yup, I was that into it!
23. Spicy Hot Cinnamon
And speaking of cinnamon, here’s another spice-infused flavor that was a hit with Oreo fans.
The Spicy Hot Cinnamon definitely had some heat, but not too much that it became unpleasant.
These cookies had a delicate balance of hot and sweet, which made them such a joy to snack on.
And that bright-red filling? So stunning!
24. Chocolate Hazelnut Oreos
Nutella is one of the most popular spreads out there, so it only made sense to release a Chocolate Hazelnut Oreo flavor.
Launched alongside the Spicy Hot Cinnamon in 2018, this flavor may not have been the most innovative, but it definitely was the epitome of Nutella cookie sandwich goodness.
25. Hot Cocoa Oreos
Hot Cocoa Oreos were released for a limited time in 2018, along with Chocolate Hazelnut and Spicy Hot Cinnamon.
Together, the three flavors were launched for the cold winter months. True enough, Hot Cocoa Oreos were indeed comforting!
26. Apple Pie Oreos
Nothing screams fall more than a warm apple pie. In 2017, Nabisco launched their very own Apple Pie Oreos.
They had an apple pie-flavored creme filling sandwiched in between two graham-flavored cookies.
They were sweet, tart, and had a hint of cinnamon — exactly the flavors you will find in a classic apple pie.
They truly knocked it out of the park with this one!
27. Watermelon Oreos
Here’s another fruity Oreo flavor for you. Watermelon Oreos were released over the summer of 2013.
They had a pink and green watermelon-flavored filling, which was sandwiched between two golden Oreos.
As for the flavor, just imagine watermelon juice blended with cream. That’s exactly how it tasted.
28. Matcha Oreos
While matcha has been around for decades, people are once again rediscovering the nutritious green tea powder.
In 2020, Nabisco Japan released Matcha Oreos, which are chocolate cookies with a pale green matcha filling.
29. Orange Ice Cream Oreos
You’ve probably never heard of this flavor before, and that’s because it was only released in Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and Indonesia.
To give you a clue on its flavor, here’s the tea: The orange ice cream filling has a citrusy flavor, reminiscent of orange zest.
The chocolate cookies enhance the flavor of the filling, giving you a delicate balance of sweet and tart flavors.
30. Double Delight Oreos
These cookies were introduced all the way back in 1987.
There were several flavors, which had two fillings each, including peanut butter and chocolate, coffee and creme, and mint and creme.
31. Banana Split Creme Oreos
A banana split is such a classic dessert, so why not turn it into a cookie?
Banana Split Creme Oreos were introduced in 2008 and had a strawberry and banana-flavored filling.
They made use of one golden and one chocolate cookie to represent each ice cream flavor.
32. Brownie Batter Oreos
Brownie Batter Oreos were released in 2015 and had an irresistible brownie batter creme filling in between two chocolate cookies. Who says you can’t have the best of both worlds?
33. Sugar Free Oreos
Admittedly, I’m not sure who this would cater to. I mean, what’s the point of buying Oreos if you can’t have sugar? But Sugar-Free Oreos did exist for a time.
Released in 2006, this version had 10 fewer calories per serving than the original. But it also cost twice as much. Yikes!
34. Pumpkin Spice Oreos
Two golden cookies with a lovely cinnamon- and nutmeg-flavored creme filling: that’s what you get from a Pumpkin Spice Oreo. It’s the perfect fall snack!
What I love about it is that it’s not as overwhelmingly sweet as other Oreo flavors. It has just the right amount of sweet and spice.
35. Chocolate and Dulce de leche Oreos
I love dulce de leche, so I would’ve loved to try this flavor! Sadly, it was only released in Chile and Argentina.
Instead of the usual vanilla creme, the chocolate cookies had a dulce de leche filling, which sounds spectacular.
36. Candy Corn Oreos
Candy Corn Oreos were a Halloween-themed flavor launched in 2012, 2013, and then again in 2016.
The yellow and orange-colored filling was definitely reminiscent of candy corn!
According to reviews, there was nothing spectacular about the flavor. Some found it way too sweet.
The flavor contained 28% more sugar than the original cookie.
37. Ice Cream Shure, Bert! Oreos
The Ice Cream Rainbow Shure, Bert! Oreos were released for a limited time in 2013.
They had a thick layer of raspberry and lime sherbet-flavored filling sandwiched in between two golden cookies.
You could definitely taste the raspberry and the lime in the filling. And that alternating green and pink tri-color was such a delight to see, too.
38. Cotton Candy Oreos
These brightly colored cookies were released for a limited time in 2015, only at Target stores.
The pink and blue cotton candy creme filling was sandwiched between two golden cookies. It was surely a treat for the kids!
39. Cookies & Creme Oreos
This limited-edition flavor was released in 2015. I have never tried it, but according to the description, they’re cookies and cream flavored Oreos.
It’s an Oreo inception!
40. Caramel Coconut Oreos
Released in early 2020, it’s one of the newest flavors out there. Caramel has been around for years, but the addition of coconut pieces gives it a new spin.
It’s been getting mixed reviews, though. I enjoy the combination of the two elements, but some aren’t as fond of it.
How about you? Have you tried it yet?
41. Toasted Coconut Oreos
This flavor was released much earlier, back in 2015. It had coconut and vanilla-flavored cookies, with a toasted coconut creme filling with toasted coconut flakes.
A coconut explosion!
42. Coconut Delight Oreos
Coconut Delight Oreos were released only in Indonesia and had a coconut creme-flavored filling. This variation gave a nice tropical flair to the classic cookie.
43. Firework Oreos
Such a fun name for a flavor, right? The Fireworks Oreos were a limited edition flavor released in 2018.
They had the same flavor as the original but had specks of blue and red popping candy in the filling. As such, every bite was like fireworks in your mouth. Boom!
44. Cookie Butter Oreos
The Cookie Butter spread became such a huge trend, so Nabisco decided to jump on the bandwagon.
In 2017, they released the Cookie Butter Oreos, which were graham-flavored cookies with a cookie butter-flavored filling.
45. Strawberry Shortcake Oreos
This limited-edition flavor was released in 2018. It had a strawberry shortcake-flavored creme filling sandwiched in between two golden cookies.
Many described it as resembling the flavors of the Captain Crunch Berry cereal and Strawberry Kit Kats.
However, people noticed that it had a gritty consistency, and some also found the filling way too sweet.
46. Root Beer Float Oreos
Root Beer Float Oreos were launched in 2014. They were made of two golden cookies and a root beer flavored cream filling.
I tried them, and to this day, I’m still not sure how I feel about them.
While the filling barely tasted like root beer, it left a cool, menthol-like feeling in my mouth when I stuffed the cookies down. Did I like it or not? I can’t say!
47. Blueberry Pie Oreos
Blueberry pie is a crowd-pleaser, and so are Oreos. So, you would think combining these two would be a smart idea.
But while they tasted okay, they didn’t live up to the high expectations.
Released in 2016, Blueberry Pie Oreos were two graham-flavored cookies filled with a pale blueberry pie-flavored filling.
The idea seemed promising, but the filling was just way too sweet. Such a shame!
48. Mississippi Mud Pie Oreos
Another limited-edition flavor that people loved was Mississippi Mud Pie. It was two chocolate sandwiches with chocolate and whipped cream filling.
It was Mississippi mud pie in cookie form!
49. Game of Thrones Oreos
Now, this isn’t technically a different flavor, since it’s basically just the original vanilla creme-filled chocolate sandwiches.
But I still think they deserve an entry on this list because I love Game of Thrones!
The special edition cookies came in four designs – a dragon to represent the Targaryens, a lion for the Lannisters, a wolf for the Starks, and a White Walker for, well, the White Walkers.
50. Wasabi and Hot Chicken Wing Oreos
And last but certainly not least, here are two of the strangest Oreo flavors I have ever heard of!
The Hot Chicken Wing and Wasabi Oreos were launched in China in 2018.
No one knows how or why these flavors came to be, but they certainly piqued my interest.
If you think about it, the combination of hot and sweet and sweet and savory should work, right? Unfortunately, this experiment didn’t go so well.
According to tasters, the wasabi filling did not blend well with the chocolate at all.
The savory chicken filling was a miss, too. But kudos to Nabisco for their innovative spirit!
