Why You’ll Love These Pizza Burgers
Once you try these burgers, you’ll make them again and again!
- Flavor Adventure: Pizza burgers combine two beloved comfort foods into one delicious and satisfying meal.
- Family Friendly: Kids and adults alike will love the familiar flavors of pizza in a fun, handheld burger form.
- Versatile Dish: You can enjoy them year-round. Grill them outdoors or make them inside.
- Leftover Hero: They’re a great way to repurpose leftover hamburger buns and pizza ingredients.
Ingredients
Here’s everything you need to whip up these tasty burgers:
- Ground Beef: The savory foundation of your pizza burgers. It makes them hearty and meaty!
- Garlic Powder: It gives the burgers a pungent aroma and bold taste.
- Italian Seasoning, Salt, and Pepper: The perfect blend of herbs and spices to enhance the pizza-inspired taste.
- Pizza Sauce: It transforms ordinary burgers into a pizza party!
- Hamburger Buns: Be sure to get sturdy buns to hold up to the sauce.
- Mozzarella Cheese: The classic pizza cheese adds a gooey texture.
- Pepperoni Slices: To give your pizza burgers an authentic pizzeria feel.
How to Make Pizza Burgers
Making these burgers is a breeze!
1. MAKE PATTIES. Mix the burger ingredients in a bowl then form into four patties.
2. COOK THE BURGERS. After resting for a few minutes, cook the patties for 4-5 minutes per side.
3. PREP THE BUNS. Split the hamburger buns and place them cut side up on a baking sheet. Toast them lightly, then remove the tops. Warm the pizza sauce then spread it over each bottom bun, top them with cheese and pepperoni, and grill until melty.
4. ASSEMBLE. Place the burgers on the cheesy bottom buns and top them with more sauce, cheese, and pepperoni. Broil until melty then carefully put the top halves in place.
5. SERVE HOT. Serve the burgers immediately while they’re still hot. Add a side of pizza sauce for extra dipping.
Tips For the Best Pizza Burgers
Follow these tips to take your burgers over the top.
- Ditch the grease. Choose lean ground beef (90% or higher) to avoid excess grease and ensure your burgers hold together well.
- Don’t overwork the meat! Mix the ground beef with seasonings gently to prevent tough burgers.
- Create a dimple. Make a small indentation in the center of each patty. This helps the burgers cook evenly and maintain their shape.
- Get the buns toasty. Lightly toast the hamburger buns before assembling the burgers for added texture and flavor.
- Go wild with toppings! Try sautéed mushrooms, bell peppers, onions, olives, or even pineapple for a Hawaiian twist.
- Quality is key. Choose a high-quality pizza sauce or make your own for the best flavor.
- Switch up the meat and cheese. Use Italian sausage instead of ground beef, or mix the two for a more complex flavor. You can also experiment with different cheeses.
- Make it a combo. Pair your pizza burgers with a side salad, garlic fries, or onion rings for a complete meal.
How to Store
If you have leftover burgers, here’s how to enjoy them at a later date:
To Store: Allow the burgers to cool completely before placing them in an air-tight container in the refrigerator. They’ll stay fresh for up to 3-4 days.
To Freeze: Wrap each burger individually in plastic wrap or aluminum foil. Then place them in a freezer-safe container or zip-top bag. They will keep in the freezer for up to 2-3 months.
To Reheat: Place the burgers on a baking sheet and heat them in a preheated oven at 350°F for about 10-15 minutes. You can also reheat them in the microwave for 1-2 minutes, but the buns may become slightly soggy.

So, you mention patties but also the beef mixture; is it a patty or more like a sloppy Joe topped with pepperoni & cheese?
Hi Karen!
Sorry, that was a method for a different recipe π
I’ve fixed it now to explain how to make the patties!
Looks as though there are two different recipes going on here. One for a patty and one as a loose meat sandwich. Either way looks absolutely delicious! But there are no instructions for the patty version. Please clarify or include instructions for the burger patty. Canβt wait to try this one!
Hi Victoria!
Thanks for catching that π
The method was for a Pizza Sloppy Joe recipe. I’ve updated the post for this version with patties!
Hope you enjoy them!
So where is the pizza sloppy Joe recipe?
You can find the pepperoni pizza sloppy joe here, Jamie. π
