These 30 pie recipes are simply irresistible! Among them, this caramel apple pie stands out as a sweet triumph.

Ingredients

  • 2 (9 inch) homemade or store-bought pie crust

  • 5 cups peeled, cored, and thinly sliced apples

  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar

  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce, plus more for drizzling

  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, cut into small pieces

  • 1 egg, lightly beaten (for egg wash)

  • Coarse sugar, for sprinkling (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Roll out one pie crust and fit it into a 9-inch pie dish. Trim any excess from the edges and crimp to create a decorative border.
  • In a large bowl, toss apples with sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and lemon juice until well coated.
  • Pour the apple mixture into the pie crust. Drizzle caramel sauce evenly over the apples. Dot the top of the apples with butter slices.
  • Roll out the second pie crust and lay it over the filling. Trim any overhang and crimp the edges to seal. Make a few slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
  • Brush the top crust with the beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sugar, if desired.
  • Place the pie on a baking sheet and bake for about 50 minutes to 1 hour, or until the crust is golden and the filling is bubbling.
  • Remove pie from oven and cool on a wire rack for at least 2 hours.
  • Drizzle slices with more caramel sauce. Serve each with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side. Enjoy!

Notes

  • Chill your pie dough before rolling it out to ensure a flakier crust.
  • Place a pie shield or foil around the edges of the crust if they begin to brown too quickly.
  • The nutritional information provided does not include the optional serving of ice cream.
